Weβre excited to announce the release of Maven EVO 2.5, a major update that brings one of the most requested features ever introduced in the Maven ecosystem:
π Fully autonomous on-board waypoint missions for DJI Mini 4 Pro.
This update represents an important step forward in making advanced drone automation accessible, reliable, and precise β directly from your mobile device.
True On-Board Waypoint Missions
With Maven EVO 2.5, missions are no longer dependent on continuous phone communication during flight.
Waypoint missions can now be uploaded directly to the drone and executed on-board, allowing:
-
Increased flight reliability
-
Reduced risk of signal interruptions
-
Smooth and consistent mission execution
-
Professional-grade repeatability
Β
Once the mission starts, the drone follows the planned path autonomously.
β οΈ Important:
Currently, on-board waypoint missions are supported only by the DJI Mini 4 Pro, as this capability depends entirely on features implemented inside the drone firmware. Earlier models such as Mini 3 Pro and Mini 3 do not include onboard mission execution at firmware level.
This brings Mini 4 Pro users closer to workflows traditionally available only on enterprise drones.
DJI-Style Curved Paths
Maven EVO now introduces advanced waypoint trajectory options, giving pilots full control over how the drone moves between waypoints.
In addition to traditional straight-line paths or rounded corner transitions, you can now create true curved flight paths that accurately recreate the same trajectory generated by the drone during DJI on-board waypoint missions.
This means the planned path matches what the aircraft actually flies in real conditions.
Missions can now follow:
-
Precise straight segments when maximum positional accuracy is required
-
Rounded waypoint angles for smoother directional changes
-
Continuous curved paths that replicate DJI on-board flight behavior
By reproducing the real flight curvature used by DJIβs onboard mission system, previews and planning become significantly more reliable and predictable.
What you plan is exactly what the drone flies.
The result is a more fluid, realistic, and professional flight experience β especially valuable for cinematic flights, repeatable shots, and inspection workflows.
Β
Improved Virtual Stick Engine
Alongside onboard missions, the internal Virtual Stick flight engine has been updated and further refined to fully support the new curved flight paths introduced in Maven EVO 2.5.
While the flight system was already stable and reliable, this update focuses on improving motion continuity and trajectory smoothness during automated flight.
The refinements enable:
-
Smooth and fluid execution of curved trajectories
-
More natural transitions between waypoints
-
Improved motion consistency during automated missions
-
Better alignment between planned paths and real flight behavior
These optimizations ensure that even complex missions maintain stable and predictable flight dynamics, allowing curved paths to be executed naturally and without abrupt corrections.
The result is a more refined flight experience, where automation feels smooth, controlled, and closer to native onboard mission behavior.
European Regulations Notice
Due to current European aviation regulations, drones must remain connected to the remote controller during automated operations.
Maven cannot bypass safety behaviors implemented directly inside DJI firmware.
If the remote controller signal is lost, the drone will automatically trigger its configured failsafe action (typically Return-To-Home), even during an onboard mission.
However, onboard waypoint missions still provide significant advantages in Europe:
-
Flight execution remains extremely precise and fluid
-
Path accuracy is maintained directly by the aircraft
-
Movements are not affected by command latency typical of Virtual Stick control
This results in smoother trajectories and more consistent mission repeatability, even though regulatory safety rules remain fully respected.
